2016-17 Special Events
Each year Elmhurst Academy hosts a number of special events highlighting S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering and math), Arts & Humanities, the Environment, Health & Safety, and Literacy. You are welcome to view the photos below from some of Elmhurst Academy's most recent events.
Celebrating Our Italian Roots
Elmhurst Academy teaches with an emphasis on the Reggio Emilia influenced philosophy, an Italian approach to learning steeped in art, nature, community and is based around certain fundamental values about how children learn. To help build community at the beginning of the school year, each classroom
participates in a special study of Reggio Emilia, Italy. The Elmhurst Academy philosophy is inspired by these early childhood schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy. It is the goal of Elmhurst Academy to help build an understanding of the culture and diversity of this area of the globe with the students.
Peace Around the World
Each September Elmhurst Academy celebrates the Ten Days of Peace, beginning on September 12 and ending on September 21--International Day of Peace. The students participated in a variety of activities promoting peace throughout the classroom and the world. They also participated in a school-wide peace art installation as well as creating their peace tables or bench, and in The Peace Crane Project--a global project founded on spreading the hope of peace.
International Dot Day: September 15
The students had a fun filled day packed with dot explorations. They played games and participated in dot-related activities, but most importantly the students discussed the importance of the book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and how Dot Day is a representation of encouraging everyone to leave their mark. Visit The Dot Club website for more information.
