Woodworking inspires creativity by turning raw materials into a finished product and teaches the process of planning, measuring and seeing a project through to completion.  Woodworking also promotes fine-motor skills, creative thinking and conceptualization, as well as offering valuable lessons in safety and self-esteem that translate into other parts of a child’s life.

Building Bird Houses for Native Birds
In Woodworking class, the Lakeview and Woodlands classrooms collaborated to create three bird houses for Elmhurst Academy’s bird sanctuary.  By building these bird houses, students created nesting shelters for local birds, as well as enhanced their knowledge of wood working and promoted stewardship of native fauna.
